Celebrating Lunar New Year at Hoppers Crossing Montessori Centre

At Hoppers Crossing Montessori Centre, we joyfully welcomed the Lunar New Year with an exciting and immersive celebration! This year, we embraced the Year of the Snake, exploring its significance through a short educational video that highlighted the traditions and cultural meanings behind the festival.

The children had the opportunity to learn about and admire traditional attire from different cultures that celebrate the Lunar New Year. They also experienced a delightful culinary journey, exploring a variety of festive foods from different nations.

One of the highlights of our celebration was discussing the tradition of the Lucky Money red envelopes (hóngbāo) a special gift given to children as a symbol of good luck and prosperity. The children were fascinated by the meaning behind this gesture and the wonderful treats that often accompany it.

Through these activities, we not only honoured diversity but also fostered a deeper understanding and appreciation of cultural traditions.
