A Wild Day of Discovery at Werribee Zoo

On Tuesday, 19th August, and Thursday, 21st August, our four-year-old Kinder Cohort embarked on an unforgettable adventure to the Werribee Open Range Zoo, where curiosity and wonder came alive.

The excursion was filled with opportunities for exploration as the children discovered fascinating animals and their habitats from across the globe.

The day began with habitat discovery activities, where the children observed wallabies and explored an incredible collection of hands-on artifacts provided by the zoo. These included emu and ostrich eggs, local bugs and insects, native birds, animal droppings, lifecycle puzzles, and even trees such as the paperbark. Each station inspired curiosity, conversation, and rich sensory learning.

As we made our way to the animal exhibits, we were fortunate to meet a friendly zoo volunteer who shared amazing artifacts from animals around the zoo including cow horns, deer antlers, lion and giraffe skins, and ostrich feathers. The children were fascinated as they touched and felt these items, deepening their connection to the experience.

A major highlight of the excursion was the safari bus ride, where the children amazed at mammals roaming the African savannah from zebras to giraffes, rhinos to antelopes. The thoughtfully created habitats offered an authentic glimpse into how these animals live in the wild.

Adding a touch of magic to the day, the children were treated to a special interactive Bluey and Bingo show. Laughter and excitement filled the air as they joined in songs and activities with their much-loved characters.

After the show, we continued exploring on a walking trail, visiting the elephants, lions, and gorillas while learning about the importance of protecting endangered species. These meaningful moments sparked thoughtful conversations about conservation and caring for our planet.

The day ended with a cheerful picnic lunch shared with our wonderful parent volunteers and dedicated educators, as the children reflected on their favourite animals and moments from their adventure.
