Henny Penny Incursion 2026 – Hatching Wonder, One Chick at a Time

This term, Hoppers Crossing Montessori Centre welcomed something truly extraordinary into our space — the Henny Penny Hatching Program! And the wonder it sparked in our children was simply unforgettable.

Over the course of the program, our children were given a rare and magical hands-on experience: watching real eggs hatch into fluffy, chirping baby chicks right before their eyes. This remarkable incursion brought science to life in the most natural and engaging way possible.

Through the program, our children:

• Explored the full chicken life cycle — from egg to chick — building a genuine understanding of how life begins and grows.

• Developed responsibility and empathy by learning how to handle the chicks gently and with care, nurturing their instinct to look after living things.

• Asked big questions about nature, life, and what living creatures need to thrive — exactly the kind of curiosity we love to see at HCMC.

The Montessori philosophy places great value on connecting children with the natural world, and the Henny Penny incursion did just that. Seeing a child’s face light up as a tiny beak cracks through a shell is a reminder of just how powerful real, lived experiences are in early childhood education.
